BMW E39 523i Touring - NoBudget Daily Build

A while ago, near the end of June, I bought this car as my daily...

Fugly cloth interior...

But LPG conversion! That means it's incredibly cheap to run.

3 Weeks later I went on a 1400km roadtrip to Norway to attend the Gatebil event. On the way home, I fell asleep for a second and made friends with the guardrail.

Two weeks later I bought a parts car. A non-running 520i Individual.

Then I had my rear quarter panel fixed by a panle beater, who also pulled both rear arches a few cm.

Then bought some wheels, which I am currently refinishing. RH ZW1 in 8.5 and 10 x 17, they're being rebuilt to 10x17 and 11.25x17. Still waiting on new 4.5" lips for the rear.

In the meantime, I also blacked out my headliner... using show polish, I kid you not. Works wonders and costs basically nothing. Plastic parts were just spraybombed.

And a week or so ago, I sourced a rare MK Motorsport front lip... test fit:

Next steps is waiting on my rear lips to get there, sourcing some nice coilovers and also repainting the car myself on a cheap budget... car will be matte white, like the wheel centers.

So... finally a not-so-boring wheel update!

Gave the wheels a polish with the machine and it came out way better than before when I did it by hand... now it's a real mirror shine! Also added polished stainless steel center caps and picked up a set of adapters for testing (30mm and 45mm)

Image

That obviously means... TESTFIT!!!

This is 10x17 ET 35 with 45mm spacers, so effective ET of -10. The 11.25j rears will be about 3.3cm wider, so I figure they should fit perfect with the 30mm spacers, but I will test that in a few days... because I have finally ordered the 4.5 inch lips and they should arrive sometime in the next few days!

And a very quick and dirty pshop of the car lower to better visualize the end result... Imagine this with a 215/45/17 stretched onto the 10x17, just slightly tucking the thread into the fender and the rest poking out. It seems like my plan will work out! :D

Today, a box arrived. There was a cat inside amongst some other boring stuff.

Went over to my shop and just laid them on the wheels... oh my, I'M SO EXCITED!

Quite a difference to the 3.25 inch lips on the 10x17s for the front!

Image

Let's not even talk about the puny 1.25 inch lips on the 8x17 set I have sitting around :D
